10 Track Cats Will Compete at USA T&F Championships

Tucson, Ariz. The University of Arizona Wildcat track and field program will have ten athletes with ties to the program compete at the 2014 USA Track and Field Outdoor Championships in Sacramento, Calif. The meet will take place from June 25-29 and will be held at Sacramento State’s Hornet Stadium.

 

On Wednesday at 10 a.m. MST, former Wildcat All-American Alyssa Hasslen will compete in the preliminary round of the women’s shot put. At the 2013 USA Championships, Hasslen earned a third-place finish and punched her ticket to the IAAF World Championships in Moscow, Russia. If Hasslen advances, the final of the event will take place on the same day at 4:30 p.m. MST.

 

In the men’s shot put competition, former Wildcat Zack Lloyd, who also represented Team USA at the 2013 IAAF World Championships, will throw at 11:30 a.m. MST on Wednesday. If he advances from the preliminary round, the final will take place on Wednesday at 6:15 p.m. MST. He will represent National Athletic Institute.

 

On Thursday at 5:40 p.m. MST, the first round of the women’s 400-meter race will take place and feature alumnus Shapri Romero. Romero earned All-America honors in the event at the 2014 NCAA Outdoor Championships just 10 days ago. The semifinal round of the event is set for Friday at 7:35 p.m. MST. The final will take place on Saturday at 1:05 p.m. MST.

 

At 4 p.m. MST on Friday, sophomore (junior-to-be) Nnenya Hailey and former Wildcat All-American and Pac-12 Champion Georganne Moline will compete in the 400-meter hurdles first round. Hailey earned All-America accolades in the event at the 2014 NCAA Outdoor Championships. Moline earned a runner-up finish at the 2013 USA Championships and represented Team USA at the 2013 IAAF World Championships as well as the 2012 London Olympics. She will be competing for Nike. The semifinal round of the 400-meter hurdles will take place at 1:13 p.m. on Saturday. Sunday’s final will go off at 1:05 p.m.

 

Volunteer assistant coach Bernard Lagat will run in the final of the 5K at 9:25 p.m. MST. Lagat has won the USA Championship in the event five times (2006, 2007, 2010, 2011, 2013) over the course of his career. He also holds the American record in the event with his time of 12:53.60 on July 22, 2011 in Fontvieille, Monaco.

 

On Saturday at 11 a.m., former Wildcat All-American Taylor Bush will compete in the hammer throw.

 

UA alumnus Nick Ross will compete in the men’s high jump competition on Saturday at 11:45 a.m. MST. Ross, the 2012 NCAA Indoor Champion and nine-time NCAA All-America just earned a third-place finish at the 2014 NCAA Outdoor Championships.

 

On Sunday, former Wildcat Nick Mossberg will compete in the men’s pole vault competition at 11:30 a.m.

 

UA alumnus Brigetta Barrett, a six-time NCAA Champion, 2012 Olympic Games silver medalist and 2013 IAAF World Championships silver medalist, will compete in the women’s high jump at 12:05 p.m. MST on Sunday.
