OKLAHOMA CITY - Sophomore outfielder Hallie Wilson has accepted an invitation to try out for the 2013 USA Softball Women's National Team, announced by the Amateur Softball Association (ASA) of America and USA Softball on Monday. Wilson is one of 32 current and former collegiate players competing for 17 slots on the team.
Wilson led the Wildcats with a .372 batting average this season and got on base at a .476 clip primarily as the team's leadoff hitter. The Santa Ana, Calif., native hit seven home runs, 12 doubles, a triple and contributed 24 RBI.
Wilson is one nine players selected to try out from the Pac-12. Wilson is one of six sophomores on a list made up predominantly by upperclassmen and recent graduates.
The camp will be held June 10-12 in Oklahoma City before the roster is announced on Friday, June 14.
The 17 athletes selected to the USA Softball roster will compete in three separate events in three different countries. The team will begin in the United States as fans can watch as they look to defend their 2012 Gold Medal at the World Cup of Softball VIII, July 11-14 in Oklahoma City. Following the World Cup, the Women's National Team will travel to the Canadian Open Fast Pitch International Championship in Surrey, B.C., Canada July 16-22. The team will finish up the tour in San Juan, Puerto Rico August 5-18 at an International Softball Federation (ISF) Women's World Championship/Pan American Games qualifier.
