Despite a late rainfall, the University of Arizona football team finished its third practice of preseason camp with a two-hour workout in Arizona Stadium on Monday. The Wildcats were dressed in shorts and helmets.

Below are comments from head coach Rich Rodriguez following practice:

On the quarterback situation:

“They’re all getting reps right now. We will take another week and a half and then we’ll start pairing down. You can’t give six or seven quarterbacks reps for three weeks. We’ll pair it down next week.”

On the kicker position:

“One thing we missed today is, I wanted to take the kickers out there and kick some field goals to get a little bit of a judgment on them. We have the two walk-ons, Jack Flatau and Bret Miller, who give us a chance. Jake Smith has punted as well and has showed us something things. Drew Riggleman is there and he’s pretty solid. Jake Smith and Casey Skowron have kicked pretty well. We haven’t kicked anything but extra points. Tomorrow we will start kicking field goals and moving around a little bit.”

On walk-on Gerhard De Beer:

“What a great kid. The story is that he came from the track program. He’s one of the top juniors in the world in his field event. He has never played football but he played rugby. He’s a big physical guy. I asked him if he ever played football and he said he saw a game on TV. Everything is raw. We showed him how to put on equipment. We have to be patient with him. Yesterday, he said he could punt the ball 70 yards as well, so we had him punt a little after practice. He did punt one 70 yards. He could be the biggest punter in the country. We will see what Gerhard does.”

The Wildcats will continue preseason camp tomorrow evening.
