TUCSON, Ariz. – Arizona soccer completed practice Tuesday night at Murphey Field at Mulcahy Stadium. The Wildcats travel to California to take on No. 2 Stanford Fri. Oct.4 at 4 p.m. and California on Sun. Oct. 6 at 1 p.m. The match vs. Stanford will be televised on the Pac-12 Networks.
Below are Head Coach Tony Amato and junior Candace Edward’s comments following practice:
Head Coach Tony Amato:
On playing back to back against ranked opponents:
“It’s definitely something we’re aware of going in to the Pac-12 that we’re going to play really good teams regardless if they’re ranked or not. I don’t look at it like that, we just know that the next challenge ahead is a great team and we’re preparing for that.”
On specific focus in practice this week:
“We want to get better each week. We did some really good things from an organizational standpoint against UCLA. We want to build off that going in to Stanford. We saw some positive things defensively and also in the offensive attack last game so we’re just fine tuning some of those things.”
Junior Candace Edwards:
On overall thoughts of how team is doing this year:
“We’re so much better this year than we were last year so that’s been a huge change. Our team chemistry is great and we’ve all been working so hard so everything overall has been better.”
On anything specific think the team needs to work on:
“We need to work on staying together as a unit and staying confident. We need to believe in ourselves moving forward that we can compete with any team.”
On how role has changed from last year to this year:
“There’s more leadership building with the upperclassmen by setting good examples on and off the field. I think the leadership role is something that I have embraced.”
