TUCSON, Ariz. Arizona soccer completed practice Tuesday night at Murphey Field at Mulcahy Stadium. The Wildcats travel to California to take on USC Fri. Oct.18 at 3 p.m. The match will be televised on the Pac-12 Networks.

Below are head coach Tony Amato and senior Jazmin Ponce’s comments following practice:

Head coach Tony Amato:

On advantages or disadvantages of playing on the road:

“It’s unfortunate not playing in front of your fans but I enjoy playing on the road because you get out and you have everything in your control. It allows the players to step away from their routine and we get to go out and take a deep breath.”

On focus of practice this week:

“We’re putting in a game plan for USC because they are a great team and we have to stop their attacking plays. We have to find weaknesses in them defensively to expose and attack. We worked with the attackers on breaking down their back four and we worked with our defenders to make sure we’re stopping their attackers.”

Senior Jazmin Ponce:

On thoughts of team so far this season?

“We’re doing great and we’re right there. We just need that extra push.”

On what team needs to improve most on:

“Finishing. When we’re in front of the goal we need to put the ball in the net. We get opportunities we just need to finish them.”

On change of role on team from last year to this year:

“I’m more of a leader. The coaches and players depend on me more and they know I can do it.”
