TUCSON, Ariz. – Arizona women’s soccer shut out Colorado, 3-0, Sunday afternoon, in Tucson, to advance to 8-7-4 on the season. In the regular-season finale, the Wildcats will host the Arizona State Sun Devils on Thurs., Nov. 7, at 2 p.m. MT, as part of the Territorial Cup Series.
Sophomore Hannah Wong recorded Arizona’s first goal in the 64th minute off a pass from teammate senior Jazmin Ponce. Four minutes later, junior Julia Glanz scored her first goal of the season off a corner kick from Wong.
With four minutes remaining in the match, junior Alexandra Doller recorded the third and final goal for the Wildcats. Arizona outshot the Buffs, 24-12, with Ponce leading the team with six, including three on goal.
“I asked the team to respond to some changes since our match on Friday and they did that today.” head coach Tony Amato said. “We had a complete performance where we won a lot of individual battles and scored some great goals. It was an exciting day for us.”
In the net, goalkeeper Gabby Kaufman recorded a season-high 10 saves for the Wildcats. Colorado (12-5-2) recorded a total of 12 shots with Anne Stuller leading the team with four and teammate Madison Krauser behind her with two shots. Goalkeeper Annie Brunner recorded a total of nine saves for the Buffs.
Up next, the Cats conclude the 2013 regular season hosting in-state rival Arizona State on Thurs., Nov. 7. The match is set to kickoff at 2 p.m. and will be televised on Pac-12 Networks.
