TUCSON, Ariz. – University of Arizona seniors Jake Fischer and Tevin Hood earned CoSIDA Academic All-District honors, it was announced on Thursday. Both will now be on the ballot for CoSIDA Academic All-America voting.
Arizona’s defense, with key contributors Fischer and Hood, currently ranks as the fourth-most improved unit in the nation. In 2012, the Wildcats ranked No. 122 out of 125 FBS teams by allowing 499.0 yards per game. Entering Saturday’s contest, the Wildcats sit at No. 37 with just 372.9 yards per game in 2013.
Fischer, a linebacker from Oro Valley, Ariz., holds a 3.36 cumulative GPA as a marketing major. He’s started 28 and played 46 career games. In 2013, his 47 total tackles rank No. 3 on the squad. He intercepted a pass for 49 return yards and a score at UNLV. He’s also recovered one fumble for six return yards.
Hood, a defensive lineman from Chandler, Ariz., holds a 3.46 cumulative GPA as a general studies major. He’s started 11 and played in 21 career games. In 2013, he’s collected 27 tackles, 4.0 tackles for a loss of 17 yards and one sack for five yards.
The Wildcats will host UCLA for Homecoming on Nov. 9, with an 8 p.m. MT kickoff on ESPN, at Arizona Stadium. Joe Tessitore, Matt Millen and Maria Taylor will be on the network broadcast. The game will also air on Arizona IMG Sports Network, KCUB 1290 AM in Tucson and Fox Sports 910 AM in Phoenix.
