Senior Kama Griffitts scored in double-digits for the fifth time in seven games, but Arizona (1-6) fell to undefeated BYU (6-0), 64-56 in Provo, Utah on Saturday afternoon.

Griffitts was 4-of-7 from the three-point line for a team-high 14 points, building on her team-leading season average of 46.8 percent.

Junior Candice Warthen added 12 points and five assists, while freshman Breanna Workman scored nine points and grabbed six rebounds.

Arizona committed a season-low 11 team turnovers and eight players contributed at least two points.

“BYU is probably the best team we have played this season and we were right there at the end,” Arizona head coach Niya Butts said. “This is not a time for us to stop moving. This hurts and we have to continue to get better, but I think we are making strides forward.”

UA and BYU tied six times and had seven lead changes. In the second half, the Cougars’ 12-2 run gave them the final edge.

“This game didn’t turn out the way we wanted it, but I can see us coming together a little bit more,” Butts said. “We are making some plays offensively and we are making some defensively too. The players are beginning to understand what their roles are.”

The Wildcats continue their road swing in Birmingham, Ala., where they will take on the University of Alabama-Birmingham on Thursday, Dec. 5 at 6 p.m. MT.
