Head coach Niya Butts and the Arizona women’s basketball team (1-6) will travel to Birmingham, Ala. to take on the University of Alabama Birmingham (5-3) on Thursday, Dec. 5 at 7 p.m. CT.

The Wildcats are coming off a 64-56 loss at BYU, but committed a season-low 12 team turnovers and saw scoring production from eight different players.

Seniors Kama Griffitts and junior Candice Warthen both posted 14 points, while freshman Breanna Workman posted nine points and grabbed six rebounds.

Three UAB players are averaging double-digit scoring averages under first-year head coach Randy Norton. Karisma Chapman is leading the pack with 19.9 ppg and 7.8 rpg. Ashley Grimes is averaging 14.1 ppg and Chelsee Black is averaging 12.5 ppg.

The Blazers return eight letterwinners from last season’s WNIT team, including two starters and 2013 Conference USA Second-team selections Chapman and Grimes.

UAB’s 14-player roster includes two seniors, four juniors, six sophomores and two freshmen.

The Wildcats and Blazers will be meeting for the first time in history.
