The Wildcats opened the indoor season on Friday, Jan. 17 in Flagstaff, Ariz. Two school records were broken on that night in J.L. Walkup Skydome. Senior Nick Ross was the first one to etch his name in the record books, clearing 7-6.5 (2.30m) in the high jump, good for a first-place finish and a personal best. Ross cleared 7-5.25 (2.27m) to initially break UA alumnus Edgar Rivera-Morales’ record of 7-5 (2.26m) that was set on March 9, 2013 in Fayetteville, Ark. He then followed up that clearance with his jump of 7-6.5. Redshirt freshman Jordan Young set his record late on Friday night; the weight throw competition didn’t begin until after 10 p.m. The late start did not faze Young; he posted a mark of 69-2 (21.10m), good for first place. The previous record was set in 1995 by David Loshonkohl who threw 68-10 (20.98m). Overall, the Wildcats won eight events for the meet.
