Arizona Volleyball Unveils 2014 Schedule

TUCSON, Ariz.Entering his 23rd season at the University of Arizona, Wildcats volleyball head coach Dave Rubio announced an exciting 2014 schedule on Monday. The slate features a school record 16 matches on the Pac-12 Networks. The schedule includes 16 home games including two home tournaments.  

The Wildcats will open the season on the road for the first time since 2011 as they will participate in the Green Bay Tournament. Arizona will face South Dakota in its season opener on August 29 before facing Green Bay and Kansas State to close out the tournament on the following day.

UA opens up its home schedule the next weekend for the Arizona Invitational on Sept. 5-6. The Wildcats will open the event up against Alabama State (10:30 am) and Loyola-Chicago (7:00 pm) on day one before closing out the tournament against Cal State Northridge the next day at 6:00 pm.

Following their first home tournament, the Wildcats hit the road for the second time for the Texas Invitational in Austin on Sept. 12-13. Arizona will face Texas on Friday before closing the tournament against UCF and Florida A&M on Saturday.  

The Cats will close out the non-conference schedule the following weekend at home for the Wildcat Classic. The Wildcats will open the event against Coppin State at 10:30 am before facing Tulane in a Friday night showdown at 7:00 pm. Arizona will close out the tournament against UMBC on Saturday at 12:30 pm.

In Pac-12 play, the Wildcats will play all opponents twice, with the exception of USC and UCLA, which they will play just once each.

Arizona opens the conference schedule at home with the Territorial Cup rivalry against Arizona State on Sept. 24. The match will begin at 7:30 p.m. and will be the first Wildcat match of the season to air on the Pac-12 Networks.

After opening the conference season at home, the Wildcats will hit the road for three straight matches – the longest road swing of the season. Arizona will head to UCLA for a match on Sept. 26 before traveling to Utah (Oct. 3) and Colorado (Oct. 5) the following weekend.

Following the three-match road swing, Arizona returns home for four straight, its longest home stretch of the season. The Wildcats will open the two-week home stretch against Cal on Oct. 8 (7:30 pm) and Stanford on Oct. 10 (8:00 pm). UA will then host Washington State on Oct. 17 (TBD) and Washington on Oct. 19 (3:00 pm).

The Cats hit the road the following week with matches at Oregon on Oct. 22 and at Oregon State on Oct. 24.

Arizona will begin the second round of conference play when it hosts Colorado and Utah in back-to-back days on Oct. 31 (6:00 pm) and Nov. 1 (6:00 pm).

Following the home weekend, Arizona will head to the Pacific Northwest to face Washington and Washington State on Nov. 21-22.

The Wildcats then return home for the final time in the regular season as they host USC for a midweek pre-Thanksgiving battle on Nov. 26 at 6:00 pm. Arizona knocked off the No. 1 Trojans last season inside McKale Center.

Arizona concludes the regular season on the road for the second Territorial Cup showdown of the season. The Wildcats face the Sun Devils in a Black Friday battle.

The Wildcats return 10 letterwinners from last season’s 21-13 squad, including honorable mention All-American Madi Kingdon and Pac-12 All-Freshman selection Penina Snuka
