Arizona Associate Head Coach Jim Rosborough Quotes

"I thought our players' effort was superb. I thought the guys played hard, and we have really battled in the last two games. It's a long Pac-10 race, and we have 16 games to go. We just have to get better and recognize that there's a long race ahead. The longer we play together, we are going to see things done better."

"I thought we were a little impatient offensively. They hit some big shots, but I thought our post guys really hurt them when we buried them inside."

"I thought we got after them pretty well defensively, but they just beat us on the boards. We have to give them credit because they are a very good team. We've played in a lot of good games like this one, and it would have been a wonderful game to get for Bobbi (Olson) and Coach (Lute) Olson."

Player Quotes Post-Stanford

Senior center Loren Woods
"Right now, today, they are a better team than we are. For 40 minutes, they are a better team, but that's just today. It is the same thing as in the last few games, we did not come out hard in the first half. In the second half we were busted it and started to play well. (In the second half), we showed how good of a team we can be.

"In the first half, we played decent, but Stanford is too good to only play decent. You have to play100 percent against them or you are going to be in trouble. They shot the ball great. We showed that we can be a good team, but we did not play a full 40 minutes.

"That's why the NCAA tournament is in March. This is a tough loss, but I think that we have more of our focus, and our chemistry is starting to get better. I think that you still might see the Pac-10 race come down to these two teams.

On Stanford's Collins twins:
"They are two big guys. It would be even more scary if (Curtis) Borchardt was playing out there. We knew that they (Collins twins) were good, and they really played well. We are going to have to adjust a little bit when we go up there to play them. If we play a full 40 minutes, though, it is a different result."

Senior forward Gene Edgerson
"Stanford did a real good job today. They couldn't miss a free throw or from outside. That wasn't a real bad loss (because) the guys played decent. In the losses to Purdue and some of the other (teams), we didn't play as well as we could, but today was different."

Junior forward Michael Wright
"First off, I have to give Stanford a lot of credit for the way that they played and competed. The Collins twins just went hard and got into the lane to post up. It was frustrating (to be in foul trouble). The Collins twins just kept getting into the lane and on the blocks.

"During our little run (in the second half), everyone scored and was out there hyped. We started to pass the ball well and everyone was getting touches (on offense). Everyone now has a sense of urgency. We know that we have to go out and play 40 minutes."

Sophomore guard Jason Gardner
"There are 17 games left, and there are a lot of games in the Pac-10 to play. We will be one of the top teams in the Pac-10. We have to go to Washington now, and that is going to be our focus. We need to play well up there because those are very big games.

"Our chemistry is slowly coming together. Coach Rosborough is doing a great job, and he is a great coach. We have to practice hard and keep improving."

Stanford Head Coach Mike Montgomery

"Overall we played well. Our seniors feel good about this win. We got off to a good start and we stayed ahead. A win in McKale doesn't happen often so we are pleased."

"The Collins twins (Jason and Jarron) made the difference. They were huge inside and helped us out- rebound Arizona. Justin Davis did a great job guarding (Michael) Wright. He played hard and helped shut down one of their best players."

"Every win on the road is important. We came in here to win and we were not going to back down. It was pretty special."

"It was odd without Lute (Olson), not seeing that imposing figure was strange. Arizona is a great team but they're not playing to their capability right now. I think their confidence is lacking and they're emotionally drained, which is understandable."

Stanford player quotes

Forward Jarron Collins:
"This feels good. I'm excited to win here, I haven't won here before. This was a great opportunity for us to get off to a good start in the Pac-10."

"Arizona is a good team to beat and this was my last opportunity to play at Arizona and to win. As seniors we didn't want to lose here."

Center Jason Collins:
"We did a good job today. Anytime you get a victory in the Pac-10 you'll take it. Overall we played well. We attacked them offensively and on defense we tried to limit them to one shot."

"First and foremost I really feel for coach Olson he has suffered a tremendous loss. I had the opportunity to meet Bobbi Olson when I came to Arizona for a recruiting trip and she was an extraordinary lady. I felt like they (Arizona) were trying to play the game without letting their emotions get in the way. The one time that they did get emotional was when (guard Jason) Gardner got his technical foul."
