Men’s Tennis to Host Washington and Oregon

This Week: The 48th-ranked University of Arizona men’s tennis team (10-6 overall, 1-5 Pac-10) will play host to Washington on Friday, April 6, at 1:30 p.m. The Cats will then match-up against Oregon on Saturday, April 7, at 1:00 p.m.

The 12th-ranked Huskies (12-4 overall) come into the match with four ranked singles players and one ranked doubles team. Andrej Bizjak is ranked No. 45, Matt Hanlin is No. 53, Andy Posavac is 58th, and Jeremy Berman is No. 86. The duo of Berman and Posavac is ranked 36th.

The Ducks come into the match ranked 8-9 overall.

Fall Play: Junior Bruno Aropovic won the championships of flight two at the USD All-College Invitational in October. Aropovic compiled a 5-3 record in fall play.

Junior transfer Steven Capriati compiled a fall record of 4-2. He made it to the championships of flight one at the USD All-College Invitational before falling to Oliver Mailberger of San Diego State, 6-3, 6-2.

The Cats only returning starter from the 1999-2000 squad, sophomore Tom Lloyd, had a fall record of 4-4. Lloyd made it to the semifinals at the Thunderbirds Invitational, where he fell to Marko Gojanovic of Clemson, 6-4, 3-6, 6-3.

Cats in the Polls: The Wildcats are ranked No. 48 in the WingspanBank.com Collegiate Tennis rankings, released Aril 6.

Last Match: In the Cats last outing, they fell to No. 7 Stanford (3/30), 2-5, and then upset No. 30 California (3/31), 4-3. In the Stanford match, freshman Carl Hagman earned a win against No. 23 David Martin, 4-6, 6-4, 6-3. Freshman Whi Kim defeated Stanfords 78th-ranked Ryan Haviland, 6-3, 7-6(4). In the Califronia match, junior Steven Capriati defeated 25th-ranked John Paul Fruttero, 6-2, 3-6, 6-3. Hagman earned his second consecutive win against a ranked player when he beat 66th-ranked Adrian Barnes, 7-5, 6-7, 7-5.

Next Match: The Wildcats will travel to Berkeley, Calif. to play California on Friday, April 13, at 1:30 p.m at the LaNelle Robson Tennis Center.
