Wildcat Men's Tennis Competes in Day 2 of Tournament

TEMPE, Ariz. - University of Arizona men's tennis sophomore Tom Lloyd advanced to the Semifinals in consolation play at the Thunderbirds Invitational Saturday.

In the first round, Lloyd earned a win against Ted Burghardt of San Diego, 6-3, 6-0, and then flew by San Diego's Robert Boewer, 6-0, 6-3.

In the second round of singles play UA junior Steven Capriati fell to the tournaments No. 1 seed, Arkansas' Oskar Johansson, 6-4, 6-1.

In doubles play the duo of Lloyd and freshman Carl Hagman defeated Minnesota's Steve Solberg and Ed Marques, 8-2, in round two and fell in the quarterfinals to Auburn's George Maijasevic and Tiago Ruffoni, 8-6. The doubles team of Capriati and freshman Whi Kim earned a win in round two against San Diego's Jason Pongerikui and Ted Burghardt, 9-8(5), and in the quarterfinals fell to Mississippi States, Romain Ambert and Max Fomine, 9-7.

Lloyd will continue play tomorrow, Oct. 29, at 8:30 a.m. in Tempe, Ariz.
