Junior Cody Beyer Holds Individual Lead After Shooting Seven-Under-Par 65

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. - The University of Arizona's men's golf team shot an opening round 289 to finish the day tied for 16th place at the Golf World Invitational on Friday.

Individually, UA junior Cody Beyer carded seven-under-par 65 to claim first place. Beyer holds a one-shot lead over Erik Compton of Georgia and Anders Hultman of Oklahoma State.

Georgia leads the tournament after shooting an opening round of 20-under-par 268, a new course record.

Sophomore Reid Hatley fired a one-under-par 71 to complete the day tied for 36th place. Sophomore Ricky Barnes carded a four-over-par 76 to come in tied for 75th place. Also scoring for the Wildcats were freshmen Chris Nallen and Andy Connell who shot opening rounds of 77 and 90, respectively.

Play continues Saturday and Sunday on Hilton Head Island, S.C.
