Men's Tennis Falls to Arizona State

TUCSON, Ariz. (Feb. 24, 2001) -- The 54th-ranked University of Arizona Men's tennis team fell to 24th-ranked Arizona State, 5-2, Saturday, February 24, in Tempe, Ariz.

The Sun Devils swept the Cats in doubles play, earning their first match point.

In singles action Arizona earned two match points at the No. 1 and 2 spots. At the first position junior Steven Capriati beat Nic Dubey, 6-4, 6-4. Picking up a second point at the No. 6 spot freshman Roeland Brateanu defeated Jarrod Edkermann, 6-4, 6-7(7), 2-6. Olivier Charroin clinched the match for ASU at the No. 5 spot with a win over sophomore Jari Niskala, 7-6(3), 6-1. Charroin's win snapped Niskala's five-match win streak.

The Wildcats play tomorrow at noon against Loyola Marymount at the LaNelle Robson Tennis Center.
