Arizona Men’s Golf in Fourth Place at John Burns Intercollegiate

Ricky Barnes and Ben Clark Tied for 10th Place Individually

HONOLULU, Hawaii – The Arizona men’s golf team shot an opening round of five-under-par 283 and currently stands in fourth place at the John Burns Intercollegiate being held at the Leleihua Golf Course in Honolulu. Wildcat sophomore Ricky Barnes and junior Ben Clark carded opening rounds of three-under-par 69 to finish the day tied for 10th place.

Arizona sophomore Reid Hatley and junior Cody Beyer each shot one-under-par 71 to tie for 23rd place, while freshman Andy Connell continued to be successful in his initial campaign with the Wildcats. Connell stands in 30th place with an opening round of even-par at 72. Also scoring for the Cats was another freshman Chris Nallen, who is in 59th place with an opening round score of 75 (+3).

Stanford leads the field with a first-round total of 275 (-13). Auburn and New Mexico stand in second and third places, respectively. Auburn fired a team total of 278 (-10) and New Mexico shot 282 (-6) in Wednesday’s opening round.

Individually, Alex Aragon of Stanford and Michael Letzig of New Mexico share the lead at six-under-par 66. Stanford placed three golfers in the top five.

Play continues tomorrow with a 7:30 shotgun start.
