THIS WEEK: No. 18 Arizona (12-5, 6-3) opens up the second half of Pac-10 action by playing host to Southern California and UCLA. The Cats will be embarking upon a six-day stretch in which they play three ranked opponents, concluding with Brigham Young on Oct. 26. Arizona will also be looking for its first season sweep of USC since 1986, the first year of Pac-10 volleyball.

WILDCAT NOTES: The Cats' loss to Arizona State (10/1) broke a streak of 24 consecutive matches they had won when they out-hit their opponents ... Arizona's win at Southern California (9/25) was David Rubio's first road victory against the Trojans after seven defeats ... Lisa Rutledge's 22 kills at USC were the most by a Wildcat since Keisha Johnson's 25 at OSU (11/16/97) ... Raelene Elam posted her career-best hitting percentage mark (.556) vs. Oregon (9/17) ... The 3,874 people in attendance at the Arizona-Nebraska match (9/11) marked the sixth-largest crowd ever to see a Wildcat volleyball contest ... Marisa DaLee came within one dig of posting Arizona's 18th triple-double vs. Santa Clara (9/3), and her 11 block assists in that contest tied her for third on the Cats' single-match list ... Shannon Torregrosa became the first Arizona freshman ever to post a double-double in her collegiate debut at UTEP (9/1) ... She is also only the fifth Wildcat freshman ever to start her first match under David Rubio ... Dana Burkholder's 1,862 career assists put her third among active Pac-10 players. Raelene Elam ranks eighth with 578 digs and Marisa DaLee is 10th with 212 blocks ... Arizona ranks seventh in the first District 8 rankings of the season ... Seven of the Cats' 1999 opponents were ranked in the AVCA preseason poll, including three of the top four (No. 2 Stanford, No. 3 Nebraska, No. 4 Hawaii).

SEASON SWEEP?: Arizona has not swept a season series from USC since 1986, the first year of Pac-10 volleyball competition. The Trojans are the only school UA hasn't swept since 1996.

HEAD COACH DAVID RUBIO: David Rubio (Cal State Northridge '82) is in his eighth season as head coach of the Cats and his 13th year overall. He is 135-81 (.625) with Arizona and 255-146 (.636) overall. Arizona's win over Oregon State (9/16) was the 250th of his career. The Cats' match with Stanford (10/15) marked the 400th contest of his head coaching career.

ARIZONA VS. USC: The Cats and Women of Troy will be meeting for the 50th time, with USC leading the series, 38-11 ... In matches played in Tucson, Southern California leads, 19-4 ...
