Darkness suspends second round of PING-Arizona Intercollegiate; Men's Golf in 10th Place

TUCSON, Ariz. - Sixteenth-ranked Southern California carded an eight-under-par total to take the first round lead Monday at the PING-Arizona Intercollegiate. Darkness suspended play in the second round with 15 holes completed.

Four Trojan golfers posted scores of par or better as the squad totaled a team score of 276 (-8) to lead the 20-team field by seven strokes. Ohio State was the only other team to break par and stands in second place at 283 (-1). Arizona State and California (286) are tied for third, while South Carolina and Oregon (290) are tied for fifth place.

USC's Kevin Stadler is among a group of four players tied for the individual lead at 67 (-4). He is joined by South Carolina's Kyle Thompson, Ohio State's Mike Austin and Arizona State's Brady Stockton. Stadler's teammate, Alex Kuyumjian is tied for fifth place, one stroke off the pace.

The Arizona "A" and "B" teams are both tied for 10th place at 297 (+13). Andy Connell, playing for the Arizona "B" team, was the only Wildcat golfer to post a round at par. His opening round 71 places him in a tie for 13th place.

Second round action was suspended at 6 p.m. MST due to darkness. The remaining holes will be completed Tuesday morning before the start of the third round.

The two-day event runs through Tuesday, Jan. 30, and will be contested at The Raven at Sabino Springs, a par 71, 6,776-yard layout. An 8 a.m. MST shotgun start is scheduled for Tuesday.
