Wildcats Finish Eighth at W.H. Tucker Intercollegiate

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (Oct. 2) - The University of Arizona men's golf team posted an eighth-place finish at the William H. Tucker Intercollegiate after today's final round at the Championship Golf Course (par-72, 7,248 yards). The Wildcats saved their best round of the tournament for today with a score of 289 on their way to a 54-hole total of 885, just five shots behind fifth-place Oklahoma.

Brigham Young held a comfortable lead throughout the tournament and finished in first place with an 8-under-par 856 total. USC finished ten shots behind in second place, while New Mexico and UNLV tied for third at 875.

Individually, Colorado State's Nigel Spence earned medalist honors with an 8-under-par 208 (70-68-70). Arizona senior Derek Gillespie posted his first top-five finish of the season as he tied for fifth with a 1-under-par 215 (74-72-69).

Wildcat freshman Ricky Barnes tied for 26th with a 5-over-par 221 (74-76-71) and freshman Patrick Norris was the next Wildcat on the board, tying for 48th at 9-over-par 225 (76-77-72).

Rounding out the lineup for Arizona was sophomore Cody Beyer who tied for 58th with an 11-over-par 227 (76-72-79), and freshman Reid Hatley who tied for 74th at 14-over-par 230 (77-77-76). Wildcat Scott Moore competed as an individual and tied for 26th with a score of 5-over-par 221 (74-74-73).

Arizona will return to action Oct. 11-12 at the Red River Classic in Dallas, Tex.
