TUCSON, Ariz.–The University of Arizona’s men’s and women’s golf teams are both ranked near the top of the College Golf Foundation’s MasterCard Collegiate Golf Rankings. The Wildcat women are ranked No. 2 in the CGF’s poll, while Arizona’s men currently stand at No. 24. The Wildcat men are ranked No. 12 in Golf World magazine’s coaches poll.

Individually, Wildcat freshman Lorena Ochoa is the nation’s top-ranked golfer. Ochoa was named the Rolex College Golfer of the Month for the third time this season in February, only the third time in the six-year history of the CGF that has occurred (Jenna Daniels of Arizona – 1999-2000, Tiger Woods of Stanford – 1995-96). The freshman has won three tournaments this season, including last month’s Wildcat Invitational.

Also ranked in the top 10 of the CGF poll for Arizona is freshman Natalie Gulbis, who comes in at No. 8. Gulbis won the first tournament title of her career last month at the TRW Regional Challenge.

On the men’s side, sophomores Reid Hatley and Ricky Barnes are the top-ranked golfers for the Wildcats. Hatley is rated No. 32 by the CGF, while Barnes is No. 36.

The Arizona men received 207 points in the Golf World coaches poll and are 12th.

Arizona’s women’s golf team returns to action on March 27 when it travels to Honolulu for the Dr. Donnis Thompson Invitational hosted by the University of Hawaii. The men are in action on April 6 at the U.S. Collegiate Championships in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico.
