Wildcats in Fourth Place After Two Rounds of the Pac-10 Championships

Tempe, Ariz. The 10th ranked University of Arizona men's golf team is in fourth place after the first two rounds of the 2000 Pacific-10 Golf Championships, which are being held at the Karsten Golf Course (Par-72, 7,026). The Wildcats carded rounds of 362 and 357 today and have a 36-hole total of 1-under-par 719, which is 29 shots behind first place Arizona State. The five-time defending Pac-10 champion Sun Devils had rounds of 339 and 351 to post a 30-under-par 690 total. They own a 17 shot lead over second place Oregon (707). California is in third at 711, followed by the Wildcats at 719.

Individually, ASU's Paul Casey is in first place by four shots at 13-under-par 131 after firing rounds of 66 and 65. Casey, the two-time defending Pac-10 champion, leads teammate Jonas Lundquist, who is in second at 9-under-par 135 (66-69). Oregon State's John Lepak is in third at 137 (70-67).

Arizona freshman Ricky Barnes is in seventh place and nine shots off the lead at 4-under-par 140. He opened the day with a 71 and came back with a 69 in the afternoon. UA senior Derek Gillespie is right behind Barnes and is in a three-way tie for eighth at 3-under-par 141 (71-70).

The rest of the Arizona lineup includes sophomore Cody Beyer, who is tied for 16th at 1-under-par 143 (70-73); freshman Reid Hatley, who is tied for 36th at 3-over-par 147 (74-73); and senior Scott Moore and freshman Patrick Norris, who are both tied for 41st at 5-over-par 149. Moore had rounds of 77 and 72, while Norris carded a 76 and a 73.

The third round of the 72-hole tournament begins tomorrow morning at 7:30 a.m. There will be 18 holes of play on the schedule. The final round is on Wednesday and it will be 18 holes, starting at 7:30 a.m.
