Arizona Men's Swimming and Diving Completes Day One of the Pacific-10 Championships

    LONG BEACH, Calif. -- The No. 7 University of Arizona men's swimming and diving team is in fourth place after the first day of the 2001 Pac-10 Championships with 111 points (diving has not yet been added). Stanford holds the lead with 249 points, followed by Southern California (194) and California (146.5) Arizona State (76.5) and Washington (68) are fifth and sixth, respectively. The meet is being held at the Belmont Plaza Olympic Pool in Long Beach, Calif.

    Arizona's 200 free relay team made up of junior Roland Schoeman, freshman Tyler Johnson, senior Jay Schryver and freshman Eric La fleur, placed third with the NCAA consideration time of 1:19.18. In the 400 medley relay the Cat's placed fourth with another NCAA consideration time of 3:14.90. The 400 medley relay team consisted of junior Kris Souther, freshman Greg Owen, senior Ben Anderson and Schoeman.

    Individually for the Wildcats Schoeman placed third in the 50 free when he touched the wall in the time of 19:48. In the 200 IM Anderson placed eighth at 1:50.12.

    The second day of the 2001 Men's Pac-10 Championships will be Friday, March 2 beginning with preliminaries at 11 a.m. PST. Finals of day-two will begin at 6 p.m. PST. Saturday, March 3, will mark the third and final day of the competition.
