TUCSON, Ariz.- Friday night was a momentous occasion for the 8th-ranked Arizona volleyball team. The Wildcats extended their winning streak to 11 matches with a 15-7, 15-11, 15-11 victory over the 15th-ranked Stanford Cardinal. The 11 in-a-row snaps a tie for most consecutive wins for an Arizona team, previously shared with the 1998 squad. The Wildcats improved to 4-0 in the Pac-10, the best conference start ever for an Arizona team. The win was only the second ever over Stanford, breaking a Cardinal 13-game win streak over the Wildcats.

The Wildcats (11-1, 4-0 Pac-10) dominated all aspects of the game. UA outhit Stanford (7-5, 2-3 Pac-10) .325 to .200, out-dug them 57 to 39 and out-blocked them 20-13. The Wildcats have now hit .300 or better in an outstanding nine of their 11 matches this season.

A number of Arizona players had impressive nights. Leading the way was junior Jill Talbot, who recorded the second best hitting percentage in Arizona history. The San Diego, Calif., native collected 15 kills on 19 attempts while committing only a single error for a .737 hitting percentage. That figure trails only the .750 percentage put up by four different Arizona players. She also chipped in with nine digs, sharing the team high with senior Elvina Clark.

Senior Allison Napier tallied a game-high 16 kills on .419 hitting and added four blocks. Marisa DaLee, Arizona's leading hitter on the season, had 12 kills for the match. The fifth-year senior became only the ninth player in Arizona history with 1000 career kills when she smacked home her seventh of the night in the second game. Dana Burkholder, the conference leader in assists per game, dished out an even 50 on the night, the sixth time this season she has had 50 or more assists in a match.

The loss was Stanford's third consecutive defeat, marking the first time a Cardinal team has lost three in-a-row since 1989. Arizona will try to extend its record winning streak to 12 on Saturday, with a 7 p.m. match against California (6-5, 2-3 Pac-10), 3-1 winners over Arizona State Friday night.
