Men's Golfers Finish the Year Ranked Sixth in the MasterCard Collegiate Golf Rankings

Tucson, Ariz. (June 7) -- Following its third-place performance at the NCAA Championships, the University of Arizona men's golf team completed the season at No. 6 in the final edition of the MasterCard Collegiate Golf Rankings. It marks the highest ranking of the year and the Cats finished the year as the highest ranked team from the Pacific-10 Conference.

Individually, freshman Ricky Barnes was the top-ranked Wildcat at No. 17. The winner of two tournaments this season, he finished in a tie third at both the NCAA Championships and the Pac-10 Championships. He was also tops on the team for stroke average with a 71.04 mark and had six top-10 finishes to go with three top-20 outings.

Senior Derek Gillespie was right behind Barnes at No. 18. He had a team-best seven top-10 finishes and tied for 12th at the NCAA Championships. He was also second on the team for stroke average at 71.48.

Freshman Reid Hatley was ranked 49th and sophomore Cody Beyer was 99th.
