STANFORD, Calif. - The University of Arizona's women's golf team captured its second tournament title of the fall season Sunday at the Stanford/Pepsi Invitational after shooting a final round of 303 to finish with a team total of nine-over par 873. The No. 1 Wildcats knocked off Pac-10 rivals No. 3 Southern California, who finished in second place at 879 (+15), and host No. 5 Stanford, who finished third at 886 (+22).
Individually, freshman Lorena Ochoa was Arizona's top finisher in second place after shooting a third round of 73. She finished at three-under par (66-74-73=213) for the tournament. After three tournaments, Ochoa is a combined 10 strokes under par and has three top-10 finishes.
Freshman Natalie Gulbis earned a fifth-place finish in her first-ever collegiate competition. She closed out the tournament with a five-over-par 77 to end the weekend at one-over par (67-73-77=217).
Junior Cristina Baena, the nation's top-ranked golfer, turned in her third top-10 performance of the year. Baena carded a six-over par 78 Sunday, which put her at five-over for the tournament, and tied for ninth place (70-73-78=221).
Arizona's only competing senior, Christina Monteiro, tied for 24th place at 11-over par (74-78-75=227). Junior Laura Myerscough completed the tournament at 19-over in a tie for 54th place. Sophomore Anne Lee, who competed as an individual, shot a final round of 78 to post a three-day total of 232 (+16) and a tie for 45th place.
The Wildcats play next at the Golf World Invitational in Hilton Head, S.C. on Nov. 3.
