SALT LAKE CITY (April 24) - The University of Arizona's Heidi Hornbeek closed out a remarkable 1999 campaign by earning first-team All-America honors at the NCAA Women's Gymnastics Championships Saturday in the uneven bars and beam events. Hornbeek, a six-time NCAA All-America selection, tied for eighth place on bars with a 9.875 and tied for seventh on beam with a 9.800 in the individual event finals, in front of a crowd of 6,602, in the University of Utah's Huntsman Center.

Hornbeek, a 5-3 redshirt junior and Glendale, Ariz., native, also earned All-America honors in the all-around Thursday and is the UA's most highly decorated gymnast after receiving All-America accolades for the sixth time in her career.

Following an impressive eighth-place finish in the all-around Thursday, Hornbeek secured herself a spot in tonight's individual event finals with a third-place finish on bars (9.875) and a tie for first place on beam (9.875) during the all-around competition. She also tied for 12th place on vault (9.775) and tied for 13th on floor (9.825) during Thursday's all-around competition. Hornbeek's eighth-place all-around score of 39.350 is her second-highest mark of the season, and it ranks as the No. 7 score on the UA's all-time top-10 performance list.

During a record-setting freshman season in 1996, Hornbeek scored a perfect 10.000 in the floor exercise event at the NCAA Championships, earning her the national title in the event, and she also grabbed All-America honors that same year for her NCAA performances on bars, floor, and the all-around.

Hornbeek, a seven-time All-Pac-10 selection, concluded the season with 30 top-five finishes and 11 individual first-place titles.
