Copperopolis, Calif. -- In the third place match of the Pacific Match Play Tournament, the University of Arizona men's golf team lost in a tiebreaker to Pacific today. The two teams were tied at 2.5 - 2.5 after all five matches were completed, but the Tigers won four more holes than the Wildcats did and that gave them third place in the two-day tournament, which was held at the Saddle Creek Golf Course (Par-72, 6,829 yards).

Today's wins for sixth-seeded Arizona were recorded by Brandon Smith and Aaron Friedman. Smith beat Pacific's Jason Preeo 2&1, while Friedman beat Brian Dillon, 1&0. The Wildcats' Scott Moore lost to Troy McKinley 3&2 and David Bates suffered a 4&3 defeat to Jason Higton. The UA's John Wine halved the final match with Ben Scribner.

Bates lost to Steve Mena 1&0 and Wine was defeated by Ryan Wyman.

This is Arizona's final tournament of the Fall season and the team returns to action on Jan. 31- Feb. 1, 2000, when it hosts the Ping Arizona Intercollegiate at the Raven Golf Course at Sabino Springs.
