Men's Tennis Sweeps Lamar University for Sixth Win of Season

HOUSTON - The No. 51 University of Arizona men's tennis team (6-2 overall, 0-1 Pacific-10) swept the Cardinals, Saturday, to earn its sixth win of the season.

In doubles play, the Cats earned wins at the No. 1-3 positions to pick up a match point. The duo of junior Steven Capriati and senior Jari Niskala defeated Chris Chapman and Chrisian Schoning, 9-7, at the No. 1 spot. At the No. 2 spot, the team of sophomore Tom Lloyd and freshman Whi Kim flew by Thatcher Caibbs and Hormis Tharakan, 8-0. At the 3rd-position, the freshman team of Arnaud Agniel and Roeland Brateanu defeated Nebojsa Murisic and Randy Aschenbeck, 9-8(4).

In singles play, Niskala beat Thatcher Caibbs, 6-0, 6-1, at the No. 4 spot. At the 1st-position, Capriati flew by Neojsa Murisic, 6-1, 6-0.

The Cats next see action on Saturday, Feb. 24, at 12:00 p.m. against Pac-10 rival Arizona State in Tempe, Ariz.
