The University of Arizona men's and women's cross country teams will compete at five invitational meets in 1999, in addition to three championship meets, head coach Dave Murray announced today.
Arizona opens its season for the second straight year at the UC-Irvine Invitational in Irvine, Calif., Sept. 11, and the Aztec Invitational in San Diego, Sept. 18.
The Wildcats then travel further north in California to the Stanford Invitational, Oct. 2, before returning to their home state for the Arizona State Invitational in Gilbert, Ariz., Oct. 8. Arizona will then compete at the Pre-NCAA Invitational in Bloomington, Ind., Oct. 16.
Arizona begins its "Championship" season at the Pacific-10 Conference Championships in Long Beach, Calif., Oct. 30. The Wildcats travel to Portland, Ore. for the NCAA West Region Championships, Nov. 13.
The Wildcats conclude their season at the NCAA Championships, hosted by Indiana University, in Bloomington, Nov. 22.
Last season, the Arizona men finished 11th at the NCAA Championships, while the women were 16th. Seniors Abdi Abdirahman and Amy Skieresz each finished second in the individual races.
