CHASKA, Minn. (June 4) - Arizona senior Derek Gillespie shot a four-over par 76 in the third round of the 1999 NCAA Men's Golf Championships in Chaska, Minn., Friday.

After shooting a 72 and a 71 in his first two rounds, Gillespie (Oshawa, Ontario) fell into a tie for sixth with two Clemson golfers, Jonathan Byrd and Lucas Glover, with 18 holes remaining. The trio is at 3-over-par 219, six strokes behind Northwestern's Luke Donald, who will take a three-shot lead into the final round.

Junior Scott Moore, the only other Wildcat to make the cut, shot a 77 Friday to bring his three-day total to 227, 11-strokes-over-par.

The 72-hole tournament is being held at the Hazeltine National Golf Club (Par-72, 7,196 yards). The start of play Friday was held up for an hour because of morning thunderstorms.

Arizona did not make the cut as a team after posting a 36-hole total of 39-over-par 615 Wednesday and Thursday.

Oklahoma State will take a five-shot lead into Friday's final round. The Cowboys are 18-over-par at 882, five strokes ahead of Georgia. OSU shot a 285 Friday, the best score of any team this week.
