Eugene, Ore. No. 2 Arizona defeats No. 17 Oregon for the second straight day, 1-0 Sunday at Howe Field. Arizona improves to 47-7, 10-4.

Trailing 1-0 since the top of the third inning, Oregon had its best chance to score in the bottom of the seventh inning when Missy Coe started things off with a leadoff walk. After back-to-back strikeouts, Jill Robinson was hit by a pitch and Andrea Vidlund got another walk to load the bases for pinch hitter Kelly Planche. But Wildcat starter Becky Lemke (25-5) got Planche to strike out swinging to end the game and preserve the win for Arizona.

The Wildcat run came on Allison Andrade's seventh home run of the season to lead off the third inning. Arizona had another run taken off the scoreboard in the top of the seventh when home plate umpire Willie Newman ruled that Laura Bauer had stopped running to first base to avoid a tag by Oregon starting pitcher Connie McMurren and that prevented her from making a play at the plate on Andrade, who had scored on the play. After a long discussion by the umpiring crew and the two head coaches, Newman made the ruling and Andrade had to come out of the dugout and return to third base. McMurren got Nicole Giordano to pop out to third to end the inning.

In another pitcher's duel, McMurren (14-14) went the distance and allowed just five hits and tying her season high with eight strikeouts on the afternoon. Her counterpart Lemke limited Oregon to just one hit, a one-out double to Coe in the bottom of the fourth inning. She struck out 12 Oregon hitters on the day.

We just couldn't muster a hit when we needed one again today, head coach Rick Gamez said. We are playing well and all of our games with them (Arizona) have been especially close. I think we are where we need to be but we just had tough luck today. Connie (McMurren) threw an excellent game and gave us a chance to win but our bats just were not lively this weekend against one of the best teams in the country.
