Arizona Softball Beats UNLV, Loses First Game of Season to Louisiana-Lafayette

The University of Arizona softball team beat UNLV 10-0 Thursday at the Kia Klassic in Fullerton, Calif., but the team dropped its first game of the season, 4-3, to Louisianaa-Lafayette earlier in the day.

Jenny Gladding pitched a two-hit shutout to improve to 9-1 with a win over the Rebels. She struck out nine and did not give up a walk in the game.

Leneah Manuma, Lindsey Collins, Jennie Finch and Gladding all hit home runs in the game. Manuma and Finch were 2-for-2 and 3-for-3, respectively, and both drove in three runs. Collins and Gladding drove in two runs.

In the Wildcats' first game of the day, they lost their first game of the season, 4-3 to Lafayette. Although the Wildcats had seven hits in the game to the Rajin' Cajuns' three, Melissa Coronado held Arizona to only three runs.

Becky Lemke (10-1) struck out eight, but allowed four runs and three hits in the loss. Nicole Giordano and Toni Mascarenas both were 2-for-4 for the Wildcats (32-1).

Arizona continues action at the Kia Klassic Friday when it takes on Cal State-Northridge and Cal State-Fullerton.
