Cross Country Teams Beat Harvard and Northeastern

Sophomore Enda Johnson (Co Monaghan, Ireland) and junior Sara Tindall (Stanton, NJ) paced the men's and women's cross country teams to victory this past weekend at Franklin Park in Dorchester, Mass. The men's team defeated Harvard, 23-38, and swept Northeastern, 15-48. The women also defeated Harvard, 15-38, and Northeastern, 15-50.

Johnson, running in his first meet of the year, led the way for the Bears winning the race in a time of 24:46. Senior Joe Smith (Baltimore, MD) was the next finisher for the Bears in fourth place, followed by junior Ross Eppler (Albuquerque, NM) in fifth, sophomore Scott MacDonald (Hayward, CA) in sixth, and freshman Adam Reich (Cambridge, MA) in seventh.

In the women's race, Brown swept the top five places.Tindall paced the Bears by winning the race in a time of 18:18. Senior captain Laura Sobik (Mt Sinai, NY) finished second right behind Tindall with freshman Rosie Woodford (Peace Dale, RI) in third place. Junior Michelle Gross (Duluth, MN) and sophomore Kim Thalman (Holliston, MA) round out the top five for the Bears, placing fourth and fifth place repectively.

The Brown men also had a strong showing in their first meet of the season, the Fordham Invitational held at Van Cortlandt Park in New York. The men's team finished second behind Duke in an 11 team meet. Smith won the men's race in a time of 25:38. Reich won the freshman race with a time of 27:08.

The women's team finished third with 107 points. Junior Annemarie Van Parys (New Canaan, CT), with a time of 19:11, was the first Brown finisher, placing tenth. Woodford won the freshman race in a time of 18:39.
