Tennis Coach Bill Wright Honored

Arizona men's tennis coach Bill Wright was named NCAA Region 8 Coach of the Year following his 12-9 regular season and his team's NCAA Regionals appearance.

Wright received the honor from the Intercollegiate Tennis Coaches Association at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Hall of Fame banquet in Athens, Ga.

A member of the UA staff for 15 years, Wright has earned National Coach of the Year honors (in 1978 while at California) and was Pac-10 Coach of the Year in 1982.

The 2001 Wildcats finished with a 12-10 record after their appearance in NCAA Regional action at Athens on May 12, and were ranked No. 37 in the ITA ratings. He led the Cats to NCAA appearances in three of the past seven years. The team had its highest ranking of No. 33 in mid-April.
