Arizona Womens Swimming and Diving Trail Texas; Wildcat men fall behind Texas and Texas A&M

    AUSTIN, Texas - The No. 3 ranked Arizona women's swimming and diving team trail Texas 72-59 after the first session of three. On the men's side Texas leads Arizona 93-40, while Texas A&M is ahead of the Wildcats 86-45. The second and third sessions will be held tomorrow, January 27, 2001 at the Joe and Lee Jamail Texas Swimming Center in Austin, Texas.

    On the Wildcat's women's team junior Sarah Tolar placed first in the 500 free, touching the wall in the time of 4:50.74. In the 200 IM junior Erin Vogt (2:06.11) placed second, while sophomore Amanda Beard (2:06.64) placed third. Junior transfer Michelle Engelsman placed third in the 50 free swimming to the time 23.55.

    The women's 200 free relay team, made up of Engelsman, juniors Jenny Vanker and Amy Bouta and Tolar, came in second with the time of 1:32.95. Arizona also placed second in the 400 medley relay with the time of 3:43.94 (sophomore Beth Botsford, Beard, Vogt and Tolar).

    In three meter diving senior Lindsay Berryman broke an Arizona school record scoring 477.95 points. This tied Berryman for first place with Kristen Marquis of Texas.

    On the men's side of the event senior Tyler Painter placed first in the 500 free with the time of 4:22.57. In the 50 free junior Roland Schoeman swam to the time of 20.28 to capture third place.

    In men's three meter diving senior Omar Ojeda placed third, scoring 576.35 points.
