University of Arizona women's soccer player Chrissy Sanford (Newbury, CA/Newbury Park HS) has been named the Pac-10 Player of the Week for Sept. 27-Oct.3, the Pac-10 Conference announced on Monday.
Sanford, a junior forward, tallied two goals and two assists in a pair of Arizona wins last week. She scored two goals and added one assist in a 3-1 win over Wyoming on Oct. 3 and assisted the lone goal in the UA's 1-0 win over Pepperdine on Oct. 1.
Currently, Sanford ranks second in the Pac-10 in scoring (23 points), goals (nine) and assists (five). She is just two goals short of tying the Arizona single season record (11), and is just four points shy of the UA single season scoring record (27 points).
Arizona is 6-4-0 on the season and riding a school-record-tying three-game win streak. The Cats are only two victories away from tying the school record for most wins in a season (8, in 1997) and need just five goals to tie the single season school record of 26 goals (1995, 1997).
This is Sanford's first Pac-10 Player of the Week honor and Arizona's first-ever soccer Player of the Week honor.
The Wildcats will resume Pac-10 play this weekend, playing at USC on Friday, Oct. 8, at 3 p.m. and at UCLA on Sunday, Oct. 10, at 2 p.m.
