Tucson, Ariz. - The top-ranked University of Arizona women's golf team won the Arizona Invitational today at the Randolph Park Golf Course (Par-72, 6,003 yards), and in the process, won for the fourth time in six outings this season. The Wildcats also won this event last year and dating back to the 1998-99 campaign, they have now finished first in eight of their last 15 tournaments.

After entering the final day with a seven shot lead, the Wildcats carded a 2-over-par 290 this afternoon to post their first place total of 7-under-par 857. Arizona beat second place and No. 4 ranked Arizona State by seven strokes. The Sun Devils entered the day in second place, but also shot a 290 today to finish at even-par 864. First round leader Stanford placed third with a 1-over-par 865, Duke was fourth at 873 and New Mexico rounded out the top-five with an 874 total.

Individually, Duke Beth Bauer led wire-to-wire and won the tournament with a 5-under-par 211 total. Even though she shot her worst round of the tournament today - a 1-over-73 - she still held on for the win, beating a trio of golfers who tied for second by just one stroke. Included in that group of second place finishers were Stanford's Kim Rowton, New Mexico State's Alena Sharp and San Jose State's Marcela Leon. All three carded totals of 4-under-par 216.

There was a group of four golfers tied for fifth at 3-under-216, including two women from the first place Arizona Wildcats - Jenna Daniels and Christina Montiero. Daniels, who is the nation's top-ranked golfer, shot a 68 this afternoon to help move up from 17th place. Meanwhile, Montiero started the day in second place, but shot a 74 today and fell into the four-way tie for fifth.

The rest of the Arizona lineup included Jill Gomric, who placed 12th with a 1-under-par 215; Cristina Baena, who tied for 20th at 3-over-par 219 and Julia Kraschinski, who tied for 61st with a 12-over-par 228.

One Wildcat golfer, Anne Lee, was competing as an individual and she tied for 41st with an 8-over-par 224.

The Wildcats will return to action on March 28-20, when they travel to Honolulu, Hawaii, to play in the Rainbow Invitational.
