Bynum, a 5-foot-10, 170-pound, point guard from Chicago, Ill., averaged 19 points per game last season for coach Anthony Longstreet at Crane Tech Prep. He led the team to a 20-9 record last season, where the Cougars advanced to the Class AA "Elite Eight." Bynum is a three-time all-Chicago Public League pick, a two-time all-city selection and earned all-state honors as a junior. He is a Street & Smith's all-metro Chicago selection and earned MVP honors in the Nike Back to School Classic. Bynum is rated as the No. 93 recruit nationally and the No. 15 point guard by Fast Break Recruiting Service. He was a 1999 Chicago High School Public League all-academic honoree, as well.
"Will is a guard in the tradition of the outstanding point guards we've had here," said Olson. "He's a great penetrator, is very strong physically and an outstanding competitor. From an ability standpoint, he reminds me a lot of Tim Hardaway. A Chicago point guard who was overlooked in a lot of places, ended up at UTEP and the rest is history. I think WIll has a great future. He's a gym rat with a great work ethic."
