Sophomore guard Gilbert Arenas missed a free throw with 0.7 seconds remaining to secure an 84-83 win for the Red team yesterday in the University of Arizona's annual Red-Blue Scrimmage at McKale Center. The Red team took a two-point lead on a Jason Gardner three-pointer with 28 seconds left. The Blue team slowed the ball to play for the last shot, but Richard Jefferson fouled Arenas with less than a second left. Arenas made the first of two free throws, but missed the second. He led all scorers with 30 points and added six assists, but he committed 12 turnovers. Michael Wright led the Red team with 29 points and 11 rebounds. Jefferson and Gardner each had 15 points, and Walton added 14 for the Red team. Senior forward Eugene Edgerson had 22 points and a game-high 12 rebounds for the Blue team in his first game action since the 1999 Red-Blue game. He redshirted last season to complete his degree requirements as a student teacher in a kindergarten class. Senior center Loren Woods showed his back, which forced him to miss much of the Pacific-10 Conference season last year, is in good shape. He had 16 points for the Blue team, as well as six rebounds and three blocked shots. The Wildcats play their first outside competition Sunday, 5 p.m., in an exhibition against the EA Sports/California All Stars.
