First-year Arizona women's tennis coach Brad Dancer has hired Alabama coach Kevin Epley as his top assistant rounding out the talented staff with volunteer assistant Vicky Maes.

A native of Baltimore, Epley graduated from Southern Methodist University in 1995 where earned All-Southwest Conference honors and was a two-time Commissioner's Honor Roll member.

Since graduating from SMU, Epley has been heavily involved in women's professional tennis, serving as an assistant under Billy Jean King this past September for the Fed Cup Team, the women's equivalent of the Davis. As part of his involvement in the professional tennis arena, Epley has worked with such top players as Lindsay Davenport, Monica Seles, Mary Joe Fernandez and Venus and Serena Williams. Over the summer, Epley traveled with Patty Schnyder, a top 10 player on the women's tennis circuit.

This past year, he garnered experience at the collegiate level serving as an assistant at Alabama, an Southeastern Conference member, one of the elite leagues in college tennis.

"I feel extremely fortunate to work with a good friend as well as one of the most qualified coaches in the U.S. , "Dancer said. "His experience and passion for teaching will raise the level of our staff to new heights."
