Men’s Tennis Travel to Texas

This Week: The 50th-ranked University of Arizona men’s tennis team (4-1 overall, 0-1 Pacific-10) will travel to Houston, Texas. The Cats face No. 67 Rice on Friday, Feb. 16, at 10:30 a.m. On Saturday, Feb. 5, the Wildcats square off against North Carolina State at 10:30 a.m. and Lamar University at 2:30 p.m.

In tournament history, the Wildcats are 1-3 against the Owls. Arizona will face the Wolfpack and Cardinals for the first time in school history.

Fall Play: Junior Bruno Aropovic won the championships of flight two at the USD All-College Invitational in October. Aropovic compiled a 5-3 record in fall play.

Junior transfer Steven Capriati compiled a fall record of 4-2. He made it to the championships of flight one at the USD All-College Invitational before falling to Oliver Mailberger of San Diego State, 6-3, 6-2.

The Cats only returning starter from the 1999-2000 squad, sophomore Tom Lloyd, had a fall record of 4-4. Lloyd made it to the semifinals at the Thunderbirds Invitational, where he fell to Marko Gojanovic of Clemson, 6-4, 3-6, 6-3.

Last Match: The Wildcats defeated NAU, 5-2, on Feb. 4, and downed Utah, 6-1, on Feb. 5. After both matches, freshman Whi Kim bettered his win streak to 7 matches. Kim, 11-3 overall, is undefeated in dual matches.

Next Match: The Wildcats will travel to Tempe, Ariz. to play rival ASU on Saturday, Feb. 24, at 12:00 p.m.
