DaLee Narrowly Misses Triple-Double as Cats Win in Four

TUCSON, Ariz.Junior middle blocker Marisa DaLee missed her first career triple-double by just one dig, posting a career-high 11 blocks as the 15th-ranked Cats defeated Santa Clara, 11-15, 15-7, 15-8, 15-7, in the final match of first-day competition in the Embassy Suites Wildcat Classic here Friday night.

Arizona improved to 3-0 with the win, 2-0 in the tournament. The Broncos fell to 0-2 in their first match of the weekend.

DaLee hit .370 (14-4-27) with nine digs and 11 blocks assists. Sophomore setter Lauren Benward added 37 assists and a career-high eight blocks. Arizona out-blocked Santa Clara, 21-7, and set a Wildcat Classic record with 36 block assists. The Cats recorded 10 team blocks in game three alone.

Senior middle blocker Laura Echolds posted a match-high 16 kills, hitting .313 for the contest. Junior outside hitter Ynez Carrasco led all players with 14 digs and also recorded 14 kills.

The final day of the Classic begins at 9:30 a.m. Saturday when Santa Clara takes on Kent State. Arizona returns to action at noon when it takes on Sacramento State and will face No. 18 San Diego in the tournament's final match at 7:30 p.m.
