TUCSON, Ariz.No. 14 Arizona rallied from a two-game deficit to defeat Oregon State, 6-15, 1-15, 15-11, 15-5, 17-15, in the Pac-10 season opener for both schools here Thursday night.
With the win, the Cats improved to 7-2, while the Beavers fell to 5-3.
Arizona is 16-2 in its last 18 five-game matches dating back to the 1996 season. The win was the 250th of Arizona head coach David Rubio's career.
Freshman middle blocker Lisa Rutledge led the Cats with a season-high 16 kills. Rutledge broke a 15-all tie in the fifth game, and junior middle blocker Marisa DaLee followed up with her 14th to put the match away. Arizona was helped by a season-high 10 service aces.
Senior outside hitter Sarah Bjeldanes led all players with 18 kills. Sophomore outside hitter Gina Schmidt posted a double-double with 12 kills and 11 digs.
The Cats wrap up their first weekend of Pac-10 action by playing host to Oregon at 7 p.m. Friday at the McKale Center.
