Wildcats Improve in Third Round, Still Finish 15th at Red River Classic

Dallas, Texas The University of Arizona men's golf team finished last at the Taylor Made Red River Classic, which wrapped up today at the Dallas Athletic Club (Par-72, 6,766 yards). The Wildcats had their best round of the 54-hole tournament today, shooting a 278, but were unable to climb out of the hole they dug themselves into after rounds one and two. The UA finished at 4-under-par 860, giving it the 15th place finish.

Oklahoma State won the tournament with a 51-under-par 813 and South Carolina, which entered the final day in first place, by three strokes. The Cowboys shot tournament's best round a 266 today to win the tourney.

Individually, South Carolina's John Bloomfield won the tournament by two shots after carding a 19-under-par 197. Tulsa's Martin Maritz, who shot a 62 today, was second at 17-under-par 199.

Arizona's's top golfer was Ricky Barnes, who tied for 26th with a three-round total of 5-under-par 211 (69-73-69). Derek Gillespie tied for 39th at 2-under-par 214 (67-77-70) and Scott Moore tied for 49th at even-par 216 (73-70-73). Cody Beyer rounded out the Cats' top-four, tying for 77th at 9-over-par 225 (77-77-71). The final UA golfer, Patrick Norris withdrew in yesterday's first round, but was able to return and shot a 68 today after carding a 76 in the second round.
