Arizona Men's and Women's Swimming Complete Second Day of Texas Invite

AUSTIN, Texas - The No. 3 Arizona women's swim team and the No. 5 men's swim team competed in the second day of the Texas Invitational today, Saturday, Dec. 2.

On the women's side junior Sarah Tolar recorded an NCAA automatic qualifying time and a school record in the 400 IM with the time of 4:13.12. Tolar also had an automatic qualifying time in the 200 free boasting a time of 1:45.77. Freshman Jessica Wagner competed in the 100 breast swimming in the time of 1:01.92 for an automatic qualifying time. Sophomore Beth Botsford qualified in the 100 back posting a time of 53.30. Arizona women's 200 medley relay team finished with a time of 1:39.79, an NCAA automatic qualifying time and a meet record. The relay team was made up of Botsford, Wagner, junior Maria Papadopoulou and Tolar.

Making NCAA consideration times were junior Katie Zimbone, in the 200 free (1:48.67), Papadopoulou in the 100 fly with the time of 54.62. Junior Erin Vogt swam the 400 IM with the time of 4:18.13 and junior Lindsay Farella had a consideration time in the 200 free (1:47.64).

In the women's 200 free freshman Kim Robertson finished with the time of 1:51.70. Sophomore Annie Joseph competed in the 50 free and posted a 23.89, her best time ever. Joseph also competed in the 100 back and finished with the time of 58.45. Sophomore Julie Manitt swam the 100 back in the time of 57.44. Junior Jessamyn Miller competed in the 100 breast and swam to the time of 1:04.50. The Arizona B 200 medley relay team consisting of Manitt, Miller, junior Amy Bouta and Robertson finished with the time of 1:44.81.

The Wildcat's men's swim team had two athletes qualify for the NCAA Championships, taking place in late March. Senior Tyler Painter qualified in the 400 IM with the time of 3:48.02.

The men's 200 free relay team, consisting of junior Roland Schoeman, freshman Eric laFleur, freshman Tyler Johnson, and senior Jay Schryver, made an NCAA consideration time of 1:19.20. Painter led off the 800 free relay in a consideration time of 1:39.19. Sophomore Jeff Dash made a consideration time in the 400 IM (3:55.04). Senior Scott Gaskins swam the 200 free to post the time of 1:37.36, his best time ever, while Schryver swam the event in the time of 1:36.81. Junior Kris Souther participated in the 100 back and posted the time of 49.03. laFleur competed in the 100 back as well and qualified with an NCAA consideration time of 49.11. Sophomore Dave Anderson boasted a 56.07 in the 100 breast, while senior Ben Anderson swam a 1:48.92 in the 200 IM.

Other competitors for the Arizona men's team were junior Peter Johnson in the 200 free (1:41.04), freshmen Doug Follmer and Greg Owen both participated in the 100 breast in the respective times of 57.49 and 56.29. Two other Wildcats in the 100 back, freshman Zach Ferguson and sophomore Tom Martensen posted times of 52.60 and 50.81.

Tomorrow will be the third and final day of competition at the Lee and Joe Jamail Texas Swimming Center in Austin, Texas. Preliminaries begin at 9:30 a.m. and finals begin at 3:00 p.m.
