Men's Golfers in 10th Place at U.S. Collegiate Championships

CABO SAN LUCAS, Mexico (Apr. 6, 2001) -- Arizona's men's golf team sits in 10th place after shooting an opening round of 299 at the U.S. Collegiate Championships in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico.

Georgia Tech holds the tournament lead after turning in a team total of four-under-par 284. Georgia's Nick Cassini and Matt Jones of Arizona State share the individual lead as they each finished today's opening round at four-under-par 68.

Junior Cody Beyer paced the Wildcats with an opening round of 72 (E) and is tied for 14th place. Sophomore Ricky Barnes carded an opening round of 74 (+2) to earn a share of 27th place. Sophomore Reid Hatley, ranked No. 41 in the latest edition of the MasterCard Collegiate Golf Rankings, finished today's round tied for 33rd at three-over-par 75.

Also scoring for Arizona were freshman Chris Nallen and junior Ben Clark. Nallen sits tied for 46th place at six-over-par 78, while Clark is one stroke back in 49th.

Tournament action continues tomorrow and wraps up with Sunday's third round.
