Wildcat Golf Teams Remain Nationally Ranked

TUCSON, Ariz. – The University of Arizona’s men’s and women’s golf teams are both ranked near the top of the College Golf Foundation’s MasterCard Collegiate Golf Rankings. The Wildcat women remain ranked in the No. 2 spot in the CGF’s poll, while Arizona’s men currently stand at No. 21. The Wildcat women are also ranked No. 2 in Golf World magazine’s coaches poll.

Individually, Wildcat freshman Lorena Ochoa is the nation’s top-ranked golfer according to the CGF poll. Fellow freshman Natalie Gulbis owns the No. 9 spot in the MasterCard Collegiate Golf Rankings.

On the men’s side, sophomores Reid Hatley and Ricky Barnes are the top-ranked golfers for the Wildcats. Hatley is rated No. 37 by the CGF, while Barnes is No. 43.

The Arizona women received 414 points and six first-place votes in the Golf World coaches poll and are 2nd. The Wildcats trail No. 1 Duke by four points in the coaches poll, despite defeating the Blue Devils by 13 strokes in their last meeting – the Wildcat Invitational in February.

Arizona’s women’s golf team is currently in Honolulu for the Dr. Donnis Thompson Invitational hosted by the University of Hawaii. The tournament wraps up action on Thursday. The men compete next at the U.S. Collegiate Championships in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico on April 6.
