Men's Tennis to Compete in ITA Region VII-South Championships

This Week: The University of Arizona men's tennis team will compete in the ITA Region VII-South Championships Wednesday, Nov. 8, through Sunday, Nov. 12, in Malibu, Calif. The tournament consists of a 64-player draw in singles and a 32-team doubles draw. Schools competing include Arizona, Arizona State, Cal Poly, Loyola Marymount, Pepperdine, San Diego, UC Irvine, UC Riverside, UCLA, UC Santa Barbara and USC.

This Fall: Junior Bruno Aropovic won the championships of flight two at the USD All-College Invitational. Aropovic has compiled a 5-3 record in fall play.

Junior transfer Steven Capriati has compiled a fall record of 4-2. He made it to the championships of flight two at the USD All-College Invitational before falling to Oliver Mailberger of San Diego State, 6-3, 6-2.

The Cats only returning starter from the 1999-2000 squad, sophomore Tom Lloyd, has a fall record of 4-4. Lloyd made it to the semifinals at the Thunderbirds Invitational, where he fell to Marko Gojanovic of Clemson, 6-4, 3-6, 6-3.

Last Match: The Wildcats last competed in the Thunderbirds Invitational from Friday, Oct. 27-29, in Tempe, Ariz. Sophomore Tom Lloyd made it to the semifinals of the tournament in consolation play. He fell to Mark Gojanovic of Clemson, the eventual winner of consolation play, 6-4, 3-6, 6-3.

Next Match: The Wildcats will next play at Jerry's Desert Invitational on Friday, Jan. 12 through Sunday, Jan. 14, in Palm Springs, Calif.
