SALT LAKE CITY, Utah (April 22) The University of Arizona's Heidi Hornbeek finished in eighth place overall in the all-around with a score of 39.350 at the NCAA Women's Gymnastics Championships tonight, in front of a crowd of 4,753, in the University of Utah's Huntsman Center.

After an impressive all-around performance, All-American Hornbeek secured herself a spot in the individual event finals with a third-place finish on bars and a tie for first place on beam during the preliminary all-around competition. The 5-3 redshirt junior scored a 9.875 on both bars and beam, and she will compete Saturday, April 24, at 7 p.m. (MDT), in the two events.

Hornbeek's eighth-place all-around score of 39.350 is her second-highest mark of the season, and it ranks as the #7 score on the UA's all-time top-10 performance list. She also ended the first session in 12th place on vault (9.775) and tied for 13th on floor (9.825).

The top four individuals from each session and in each event (plus ties) from the preliminary team and all-around competition automatically advance to the individual event competition Saturday.

Hornbeek, a seven-time All-Pac-10 selection, will have the day off tomorrow during the team finals.
